Waihi Gold Mine Tours offers visitors a unique opportunity to get to know Waihi's fascinating historic and current gold mining story. You’ll be fitted out with safety gear as you board our mini-bus, given a safety briefing then taken inside the security fence to view the mine operations from the best available vantage points.

During the 1.5 hour tour, you’ll be shown every stage of the process from ore extraction and crushing, through to final processing. We’ll relate colourful stories and answer any questions you may have about the modern operation and the gold mine's fascinating 130+ year history.

KSF: Kangourou sans Frontières Mathematics Competition

Inspired by the AMT’s Australian Mathematics Competition, Kangourou sans Frontières (KSF) is now the largest maths competitions in the world, with more than 6 million participants each year. Held in March, the KSF is a great opportunity for students to experience maths in a competition environment prior to the AMC in August.

The KSF will be held in the Foxtrot labs at 2:30pm on Wednesday 25th March. Bring a charged device. Pencils, erasers, and paper will be provided for working-out. No calculators allowed.

There is a charge for $10 when signing up to this competition, and parents will be notified that the charge has been loaded on KAMAR.

2026 NZ Year 9 Readers Cup - join the team! ?

Do you love to read? Are you in Year 9?

Then we would love to have you join the Year 9 Readers Cup team!

Readers Cup involves a team of 4 or 5 reading six books over April-June, and then attending the North and West Year 9 Readers Cup event held in June at Te Manawa library (by the NorthWest Mall). Readers have to know the books really well! The event consists of the teams answering 10 questions per book, over six rounds. 

It is an exciting event with some great prizes on offer. The winning team gets to represent the North and West Auckland region at the national event held later in the year!

UoA Women in Engineering Year 11 Holiday Camp

Our FREE Women in Engineering Academy Holiday Camp is returning in 2026, and we’d love for your Year 11 students to take part.

This three‑day, on‑campus camp at the University of Auckland gives students the chance to explore engineering through hands‑on activities, meet like‑minded peers, and experience university life in a supportive environment.

 Dates: Wednesday 15 – Friday 17 April
 Format: Daytime camp, 9am - 5pm (no overnight stay)
 Cost: FREE

Ideal applicants:

  • Year 11 students
  • Interested in what science or maths pathways can lead to
  • Creative thinkers, problem solvers, team players, and students keen to explore new possibilities
  • No prior interest in engineering required, just curiosity
  • Applicants will need to submit a short written paragraph (or a 2‑minute video) explaining why they’d like to attend

 Please note: This is a daytime camp, so students will need to arrange their own transport and accommodation.

 Applications close 11:59pm, Sunday 15 March.
Spaces are limited, and successful applicants will be notified before the end of March.
