Delivered by experienced Ministry of Education facilitators and real-world engineers, this dynamic project bridges the gap between theory and practice, inspiring the next generation of problem-solvers and changemakers. This project is for students interested in competing at a professional level, representing Papakura High School. Participants will learn hip hop routines to be performed at competitions across Auckland. The crew has two options for students. Competition Crew: Students who are successful in the audition will train and perform in competitions. Training Crew: Students who are not selected for the competition crew but still want to learn are welcome to stay and train with the group. They will learn the same choreography but will not compete.

Craft a Fale, shark or kava bowl in water-based clay. Make a selection of miniature war clubs in highly detailed oil-based clay. This course looks at the cultural significance and beauty of artifacts from the cultures of the Pacific, utilizing professional materials used in the film industry and by professional sculptors and prop makers.

Indian cooking is a diverse and flavoural culinary tradition of India. It is characterized by the use of different spices, herbs, vegetables and grains which results in dishes with lots of flavour and nutrition. Indian cuisine varies greatly depending on different states of India. By preparing a meal and clearing up afterwards, our students can gain valuable life skills that will help them become more confident and responsible. Learning to cook dishes from different parts of India (North, South, East, West, Northeast, Central) exposes students to different techniques, reflecting the local culture, geography, and history. Indian cooking is not just focused on cooking different Indian foods but also enhancing students learning about the medicinal properties of commonly used spices and herbs, and manintaining nutritional value when cooking. This project is for students interested in competing at a professional level, representing Papakura High School. Participants will learn hip hop routines to be performed at competitions across Auckland. The crew has two options for students. Competition Crew: Students who are successful in the audition will train and perform in competitions. Training Crew: Students who are not selected for the competition crew but still want to learn are welcome to stay and train with the group. They will learn the same choreography but will not compete.

Indian cooking is a diverse and flavoural culinary tradition of India. It is characterized by the use of different spices, herbs, vegetables and grains which results in dishes with lots of flavour and nutrition. Indian cuisine varies greatly depending on different states of India. By preparing a meal and clearing up afterwards, our students can gain valuable life skills that will help them become more confident and responsible. Learning to cook dishes from different parts of India (North, South, East, West, Northeast, Central) exposes students to different techniques, reflecting the local culture, geography, and history. Indian cooking is not just focused on cooking different Indian foods but also enhancing students learning about the medicinal properties of commonly used spices and herbs, and manintaining nutritional value when cooking. This course builds on the knowledge taught in Year 9 and Year 10 - Year 10 construction in NZ builds on the practical skills and technological understanding from Year 9, promoting greater independence, critical thinking, and a more sophisticated approach to design and make processes, while preparing students for potential future study or careers in the construction and trades industries.
Learn the art of cooking small, flavoursome, intricate dishes from all around the world. You will practice different presentation techniques and garnishing designs. You will be encouraged to examine the flavour combinations and cooking processes you already know and learn ways to elevate them to industry levels.
There is an opportunity to participate in a junior burger competition where students develop, prepare, cook and serve their designed products. Students can choose a health or a technology focus to complete the project.
There is an emphasis on foods from our own and other cultures.
Note: Do not take this course if you only want to learn Hip Hop as you will learn a range of dance genres.

In this course, you will be learning multiple group dances.
The dances you learn will involve formations, transitions, levels etc, all the conventions needed to create a strong, captivating ensemble piece.

Students will have the opportunity to explore studio photography and learn how to use DSLR cameras. Talofa lava and Welcome to Samoa, the heart of the Pacific. In this Semester, we introduce you to Gagana Samoa for different settings i.e. greetings and farewells in Samoan as well as learning some key phrases to use in classrooms and around school. You will also have the chance to experience Polyfest and Samoan Language week through performance and Samoan songs.

Most of the course will take place in the classroom; however, there will be some opportunities to participate in practical Physical Education.
The course will be underpinned by Te Aho Arataki Marau mo te ako i te reo or The Maori Language Curriculum. It will cover language patterns and vocabulary lists from Level 1 through to Level 4 in order to prepare students for NCEA Level 1 Te Reo Māori. Included in the course is the opportunity to complete homework online using language to support the students development when away from school.
Kau mai, lava mai! Join us in Semester 2 to learn about Lea Faka-Tonga through the lens of Tongan history. We will learn about the significance of Tongan food (‘umu), dance and songs in different settings. You will also experience Tongan traditions and customs during Tongan Language Week.

In this course, you will be exploring drama elements, conventions and techniques in more depth. You will be creating devised works using a text as inspiration. Your devised work will be presented to children from an early childhood centre. You will be also working with short plays in order to learn how to study a character and script for performance. There is an expectation to perform for others if you choose this course.

Participants will learn hip hop routines to be performed at competitions across Auckland. The crew has two options for students. Competition Crew: Students who are successful in the audition will train and perform in competitions. Training Crew: Students who are not selected for the competition crew but still want to learn are welcome to stay and train with the group. They will learn the same choreography but will not compete.

Indian cooking is a diverse and flavoural culinary tradition of India. It is characterized by the use of different spices, herbs, vegetables and grains which results in dishes with lots of flavour and nutrition. Indian cuisine varies greatly depending on different states of India. By preparing a meal and clearing up afterwards, our students can gain valuable life skills that will help them become more confident and responsible. Learning to cook dishes from different parts of India (North, South, East, West, Northeast, Central) exposes students to different techniques, reflecting the local culture, geography, and history. Indian cooking is not just focused on cooking different Indian foods but also enhancing students learning about the medicinal properties of commonly used spices and herbs, and manintaining nutritional value when cooking. You’ll have the chance to perform and/or compose music, bringing out the best in your musical skills. This class is perfect for students who want to take their music to the next level and dive deeper into their musical journey.

An external may also be offered for students wishing to gain endorsement, however, it is recommended that both Semesters of Music are taken for students to develop their knowledge in order to do this exam.
Additionally, for students wishing to focus on a high level of solo performance skills, it is recommended that students take both Semesters to attain the level of skills require and receive enough Itinerant tuition.
Level 1 Hospitality is a gateway into
Students at Level 1 are expected to produce food and beverages, within an authentic environment, to commercial standards. All products are assessed against the recommended commercial Level 2 standards. Students, as well as the learning tutors at PHS, are required to be committed to practising the Food Safety Standards of New Zealand and produce quality foods to a commercial standard consistently, within this vocational environment. We support each other and work as a team to achieve successful outcomes.
Hospitality students at Papakura High School have a well-equipped, purposely built and fully functioning catering kitchen and barista machine for vocational learning and assessment.
The course forms the basic foundations leading on into Hospitality in Levels 2 and 3.
This course will allow you to build a foundation of knowledge on all Maori and Pasifika Health Models as well as understanding decision-making in a health-related situation . This course will allow you to build the necessary skills about self-care and it's impact on the four dimensions of hauora. Students will have the opportunity to go on trips for this course as outside of classroom experiences is necessary for the learning in Health.

Students at Year 11 will complete Unit Standard assessments. They will be encouraged and supported to improve academic English skills to assist with their learning in other subject areas. A focus on Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking English fluency.
This is an introduction to Geography and its basic skills and concepts. In this Semester, students will learn how people interact with their natural and cultural environments through studies of population concepts, sustainability and the effects of extreme natural events.

Geography explores the relationships and connections between people and their natural and cultural environments. Geography investigates the ways in which features are arranged on the Earth’s surface and describes and explains the patterns and processes that create them. Students will learn to think spatially and use maps, visual images and new technologies to obtain, present and analyse information. Geography can be studied at tertiary level as a Social Science (or Science) subject. It leads to a wide variety of careers in environmental and urban planning and the public sector. The learning that will take place in this course is in preparation for the x1 INTERNAL Assessment & x1 EXTERNAL Assessment (an examination that you will be sitting at the end of the Semester).
This course aims to demonstrate an understanding of strategies to support yourself or others and what influences health-related situations. Through a range of in-class and out-of-class activities, you will use health promotion to understand and share knowledge about well-being. Students will be attending a 3-day camp to support the learning in the course.
This Semester course examines Historical concepts and perspectives using case studies from New Zealand and/or around the globe. The learning that will take place in this course is in preparation for the TWO EXTERNAL Assessments that you will be sitting in Semester 2. This Semester Course will focus on Historical Events of significance to New Zealanders. Topics will include the Treaty of Waitangi, 1840; the Maori Land March, 1975; Bastion Point, 1977-1978; the Springbok Tour, 1981 and the Dawn Raids of the 1970's. You will choose one of these Case Studies to base your assessments on this semester. History develops research and communication skills such as the ability to examine, select and record information and ideas, as well as to present findings effectively in written, visual and oral forms. History focuses on critical evaluation and encourages students to think perceptively and insightfully about events, perspectives and actions in the past. The learning that will take place in this course is in preparation for the TWO INTERNAL Assessments that you will be sitting during the Semester.

Students at Level 1 are expected to produce food and beverages within an authentic environment, according to Level 2 commercial standards. Students are required to be committed to practising the Food Safety Standards of New Zealand - short nails, no nail polish or false nails are permitted, jewellery is to be removed, hard covered shoes to protect the feet are required, hair is to be tied back, hair nets are required to be worn and clean aprons to be worn.
Learn and practice the basic techniques and processes in cookery, presenting products that consistently meet level 2 criteria.
Hospitality students at Papakura High School have a well-equipped, purposely built and fully functioning catering kitchen and barista machine for vocational learning and assessment.

Take a journey through the beats and rhythms that have shaped music around the world. In this course, you’ll learn how music from the past has influenced the tunes we love today. You'll get the chance to perform or create your own music inspired by both old and new sounds. This class will help you build your musical skills while also connecting you to the history and culture of music. It's the perfect way to get better at what you love and become a leader in the arts!
NOTE:
An external may also be offered for students wishing to gain endorsement, however, it is recommended that both Semesters of Music are taken for students to develop their knowledge in order to do this exam.

These online courses are also accessible from schools/teachers around the country. Do you want to take a course that is not currently offered?
Students who select a course from this list will meet with Lisa Mortimer and your whānau before you will be accepted onto the course. You need to be a very independent learner who can manage their own time and work in a completely different way to the rest of your subjects. You will have only one lesson a week, held online, and then you are responsible for completing the work during a study period.
You must have high attendance and good NCEA record to be considered for a course.
This Semester course will look into pacific indigenous stories, values of pacific cultures and material cultures that allow us to know who we are, where we come from and what our future may hold. We will also look into the significance of and why Pacific language weeks have been created in Aotearoa-New Zealand. This Semester course will be an introduction to pacific histories, values of pacific cultures and how pacific people responded or resisted colonialism. This will allow us to know who we are, where we come from and what our future may hold. This course's context will include Adventure Based Learning, Basketball/Netball, and a two-day camp where the students will hike in the coromandel. Students will participate in various physical activities where they will be encouraged to learn and demonstrate interpersonal skills.
This course explores the influences of movement in Volleyball and Badminton. It has a practical and theoretical component. Students will complete a portfolio explaining the movement's influences on Hauora and Aotearoa.
Talofa lava and Welcome to the Paradise of the Pacific. This Semester we will not only learn about important aspects of the Samoan culture, we will also look at how we use Gagana Samoa in certain social settings such as Polyfest. Students will not only receive credits for participation in Polyfest, but also having a part in planning and taking part in the Samoan Language Week performances.
In this Semester, we will look at some of the customary rituals of Fa'a Samoa such as learning how protocol applies during Samoan special occasions like the Ava Ceremony. Additionally, as part of the ONE Internal assessment students will be going on a day trip (TBC) to experience first hand different aspects of Samoan Culture, and apply knowledge that is learned in class. There is also ONE External examination at the end of the Semester.

The ultimate aim will be to attend Touch Rugby nationals played at the end of the school year. Students who select this option MUST make themselves available to play in these competitions and demonstrate a commitment to the team by learning the kawa and Tikanga of playing a team sport.
Assessment will be multi-level and occur at the appropriate level for the student. At Levels 1, 2 and 3, there will be a minimum of 8 achievement standard credits available each semester. Please note that the credits offered will be similar to senior Physical Education courses. Therefore, the student selecting this course will not be able to take Senior Physical Education also.
The teams that play in the competition will be based on the makeup of the students who have entered. ideally, we will have gender-based and mixed teams participating.
Semester 2 will focus on skills analysis and fitness
This course involves participating in a Papakura High school touch Rugby team that will play in local modules and College Sports competitions. In this course, we will be examining and conducting Social Inquiry as well as looking at Perspectives on contemporary social issues / case studies from New Zealand and/or around the globe. The learning that will take place in this course is in preparation for the TWO INTERNAL Assessments that you will be sitting during the Semester.
NOTE: The first Internal assessment is a co-requisite standard (worth 5 credits) that can count towards your 'Literacy' credits.
This Semester course examines Social Action case studies from New Zealand and/or around the globe. The learning that will take place in this course is in preparation for the TWO EXTERNAL Assessments that you will be sitting in Semester 2. ONE Internally assessed External Assessment (Digital Submission) and ONE External Exam at the end of the Semester.
This course will challenge and extend the language skills of learners across the four modes of korero, whakarongo, panui and tuhituhi.
Ideally, this course will suit students who have progressed from the Year 9 or 10 Rūmaki cohorts. Otherwise a place will be offered to students from a Kura Kaupapa or Rūmaki Reo background. Course work will comprise of 3 internal Achievement Standards and 1 External Achievement Standard Exam. Final entry into this class will depend upon a screening assessment, results of assessment, subject teacher OTJ's in conjunction with the language abilities of individuals and the entire class.
Te Reo Māori: Taumata 1
This course introduces students to te reo Māori and helps them communicate confidently about themselves, their whānau, and their surroundings. Over five weeks, students will learn greetings, farewells, basic introductions, and how to describe their home and location. Through speaking, writing, drawing, and hands-on activities, students will develop confidence using te reo Māori in everyday situations. The course also introduces cultural concepts such as pepeha, whakapapa, and whānau relationships, while exploring classroom language, numbers, days, and months in te reo Māori. Students will extend their learning through waiata, whakataukī, and kīwaha to connect language with Māori culture.
Kau mai, lava mai! Join us in learning how our Pacific people navigated the moana (ocean) through a field trip to the Maritime museum and ending it with great me’akai. You will explore and learn of the different roles and responsibilities of Tongan people particularly when making food and dance movement. The learning that will take place in this course is in preparation for the TWO EXTERNAL Assessments that you will be sitting at the end of the Semester.
Mālō e lelei, this semester you will explore the different ways of speaking and interacting in the Tongan language through various Tongan cultural settings. You will have opportunity to join Polyfest to experience Tongan dance and singing and at the same gain some credits.

Immerse yourself in the rich artistic heritage of Pasifika cultures through hands-on exploration. Craft a Fale, shark or kava bowl in water-based clay. Make a selection of miniature war clubs in highly detailed oil-based clay. If you are interested in drawing and ART, then ‘I am a Printmaker’ is the project for you. This project offers the opportunity to learn processes used by Print artists. Students will learn the fundamentals of intaglio, and relief printmaking techniques. You will have the opportunity to explore image making processes. Anyone can do these processes. You do not require any prior experience. You could bring some of your ideas.

Turbo Touch is for anyone interested in playing turbo touch and potentially representing the school at the 1 day tournament later on in the year. We will be learning the proper rules of the game, strategies and skills in preparation for the tournament.
Come and learn the traditional Māori art form of Taniko. "Taniko" refers to a traditional Māori weaving technique characterized by intricate patterns and designs, often used in creating garments and decorative items rich in cultural significance and symbolism. Patterns generated can then be used to adorn clothing as print, and lattice patterns woven for traditional Māori garments and house ornaments. No previous experience needed. Nau mai, haere mai! This project is for students interested in competing at a professional level, representing Papakura High School. Participants will learn hip hop routines to be performed at competitions across Auckland. The crew has two options for students. Competition Crew: Students who are successful in the audition will train and perform in competitions. Training Crew: Students who are not selected for the competition crew but still want to learn are welcome to stay and train with the group. They will learn the same choreography but will not compete.

Indian cooking is a diverse and flavoural culinary tradition of India. It is characterized by the use of different spices, herbs, vegetables and grains which results in dishes with lots of flavour and nutrition. Indian cuisine varies greatly depending on different states of India. By preparing a meal and clearing up afterwards, our students can gain valuable life skills that will help them become more confident and responsible. Learning to cook dishes from different parts of India (North, South, East, West, Northeast, Central) exposes students to different techniques, reflecting the local culture, geography, and history. Indian cooking is not just focused on cooking different Indian foods but also enhancing students learning about the medicinal properties of commonly used spices and herbs, and manintaining nutritional value when cooking. All products are assessed against the recommended commercial Level 2 standards. This course aims to demonstrate an understanding of health-enhancing strategies and analyse adolescent behaviours. Through a range of in-class and out-of-class activities, you will use health promotion to educate others about well-being.
This course will allow you to build a foundation of knowledge on various NZ health issues, including beliefs, values and attitudes, personal and interpersonal factors and people's ability to manage change. In class, you will also gain skills about self-care and its impact on the four dimensions of your well-being. Student's will get projects for health promotional learning in school or in the community. This will also require them to go on trips and experience community involvement as part of their assessments. Students will also be expected to complete a first aid course.

This Semester Course is a continuation of the Semester 1 (2HISP) course with a continued focus on Historical Events of significance to New Zealanders. This Semester course will be an introduction & follow on from level 1 Pacific studies with more in-depth exploration to different Pacific Histories, values of Pacific cultures and how Pacific people responded or resisted colonialism. This will allow us to know who we are, where we come from and what our future may hold. We will also look into story-telling and remember who we are through Pacific poetry and Pacific song lyrics. The learning that will take place in this course is in preparation for the TWO INTERNAL Assessments that you will be sitting during the Semester.
Pacific peoples have always been story-tellers. This Semester course will be focused on Pacific-Storytelling, speaking our truths and realities through writing and speaking. Talofa lava and Welcome to Samoa the Pearl of the Pacific. In this Semester, we will be learning about the cultural values and the roles of young Samoan men and women in specific cultural settings. For example, knowing how to present and acknowledge food and gifts (folafola sua and folafola meaai). Students will also receive credits for participation in Polyfest and having a hand in planning and participating in Samoan Language Week performances.
In this Semester, you will be introduced into some important events in the history of Samoa (pre-independence era) such as 'The Mau Movement' in Samoa. We will look at key historical figures who fought bravely for Samoa's independence. There will be a day trip planned to assist students with one of the assessments offered.
This course covers topics involving survival in an extreme environment, the impact of meteorites, asteroids, and natural disasters on our Earth system including effects on our flora and fauna. We will investigate the relationship between the size of a crater formed and other factors relating to the impact of meteorites on planet Earth. If you are considering a pathway in climate science, the environment, geology, astronomy, oceanography, or geography, this course will help you gain an insight into what it might involve.
This course involves participating in a Papakura High school touch Rugby team that will play in local modules and College Sports competitions. The ultimate aim will be to attend Touch Rugby nationals played at the end of the school year. Students who select this option MUST make themselves available to play in these competitions and demonstrate a commitment to the team by learning the kawa and Tikanga of playing a team sport.
Assessment will be multi-level and occur at the appropriate level for the student. At Levels 1, 2 and 3, there will be a minimum of 8 achievement standard credits available each semester. The second semester of Sports Leadership offers students the chance to learn about leadership styles while applying these to a coaching context. Students will then get the opportunity to coach small groups at Papakura Intermediate school. The largely practical component of this course allows students the opportunity to reflect on their leadership learning within a real-world context and offers an exciting insight and pathway into the sports and recreation industry.

This course will challenge and extend the language skills of learners across the four modes of korero, whakarongo, panui and tuhituhi.
Ideally, this course will suit students who have progressed from Te Reo Māori Level 1 and who have a developing knowledge of Te Reo Maori. Course work will comprise of 3 internal Achievement Standards and 1 External Achievement Standard Exam. Final entry into this class will depend upon a screening assessment, results of assessment, subject teacher OTJ's in conjunction with the language abilities of individuals and the entire class.
This is a competency based course, therefore, the measures of success for learners in this class will be based on their ongoing competency in Te Reo Māori, not the stringently defined curriculum levels in the NZC.
This course will suit students who desire to continue learning the language, however, are unable to engage and operate independently at Curriculum Level 7 in Te Reo Māori. This course will also suit students wanting to develop their language skills without the pressures of having to attain A.S credits, learners that previously studied Te Reo Māori at Year 9 or 10, Te Ara Reo Māori Level 1 or returning learners of Te Reo Māori.
Some experience with the language although not compulsory is desired, furthermore, a positive attitude and a good work ethic are required.
Mālō e lelei, this semester you will explore narrating myths, legends, and describing aspects of Tongan culture. The learning will also Tongan customs and protocol at a wedding and funeral. You will learn to develop your language fluency through writing and reading tasks. You will have the opportunity to experience Tongan dance and singing through Polyfest and gaining credits.
Kau mai, lava mai! This Semester you will demonstrate how to make/cook an ‘umu and learn about the different roles of females and males in this setting. You will also have the opportunity to learn ways of making our Tongan cultural attire such as kafa, ta’ovala etc. Also experience Tongan traditions in class and during Tongan Language week.
SEMESTER 1: For those of us living in Aotearoa it is the centre of our world, and universe! Learn about our beautiful natural attractions, thrilling activities and significant events. In the second part of the semester - you will also have the opportunity to learn about the tourist destinations around the World - Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia and the Americas. Trips have been to: Bay of Islands/Cape Reinga, Wellington and an Auckland City Amazing Race.
SEMESTER TWO: Learn more about the various work roles in the tourism industry, e.g. flight attendants, travel agents, hotel managers, duty free shop retailers and tour guides. You will study what makes Air New Zealand a successful global tourism business.

Turbo Touch is for anyone interested in playing turbo touch and potentially representing the school at the 1 day tournament later on in the year. We will be learning the proper rules of the game, strategies and skills in preparation for the tournament.

This project is for students interested in competing at a professional level, representing Papakura High School. Participants will learn hip hop routines to be performed at competitions across Auckland. The crew has two options for students. Competition Crew: Students who are successful in the audition will train and perform in competitions. Training Crew: Students who are not selected for the competition crew but still want to learn are welcome to stay and train with the group. They will learn the same choreography but will not compete.

Indian cooking is a diverse and flavoural culinary tradition of India. It is characterized by the use of different spices, herbs, vegetables and grains which results in dishes with lots of flavour and nutrition. Indian cuisine varies greatly depending on different states of India. By preparing a meal and clearing up afterwards, our students can gain valuable life skills that will help them become more confident and responsible. Learning to cook dishes from different parts of India (North, South, East, West, Northeast, Central) exposes students to different techniques, reflecting the local culture, geography, and history. Indian cooking is not just focused on cooking different Indian foods but also enhancing students learning about the medicinal properties of commonly used spices and herbs, and manintaining nutritional value when cooking. At Level 3, students are to produce and cater food and beverages within an authentic environment for a variety of customers and in a variety of situations. The focus of this course is to consistently produce high-quality barista beverages for customers. Students will also learn about the origins of the coffee bean to make informed decisions when selecting the beans they choose to use. Hospitality students have a well-equipped, purpose-built and fully functioning catering kitchen and barista machines for this purpose.
Students are required to be committed to practising the Food Safety Standards of New Zealand and produce quality and complex foods to a commercial standard at ALL times within this vocational environment. If not already achieved, students will have the opportunity to complete US 167 food safety.
To complement their barista work, students will also prepare, cook and serve foods also served within the cafe/ restaurant industry.
Student at Level 3 MUST produce food for service within an authentic environment for a variety of customers and in a variety of situations. Students will work in a well-equipped, purposely built and fully functioning catering kitchen for this purpose. Students are expected to prepare, cook and serve products at the entry level to tertiary.
Students, as well as the learning tutors, are required to be committed to practising the Food Safety Standards of New Zealand and produce quality and complex foods to a commercial standard at ALL times within this vocational environment. We support each other and work as a team to achieve successful outcomes.
Students must commit to achieving Unit Standard 167 Food Safety in a commercial environment , offered at levels 1 and 2, before they can gain credits at Level 3.

This course is for students who are leaning towards a career in the creative industries and would like more time developing skills in Photography. This course will be student-led with students able to choose from a variety of photographic media techniques and themes to develop a body of work, for the production of the folio board.

This course will look at a range of principles and methods of training for a purpose. You will need a fitness goal, look at methods of training you can apply to meet the goal, apply principles of training and keep a weekly record of the implementation of the training. This course will be very practical, and you will be assessed practically and through a written report.
It will focus on strategies used in various sports. The key skills will be decision-making, strategy, and critical thinking. You will also explore strategies for improving your self-efficacy and self-esteem, including aspects of mindfulness.

In this Semester, students will be learning about some of the significant culture or aganu'u in the Fa'a Samoa. Topics will include roles and responsibilities of taule'ale'a and tamaitai Samoa in a tautua setting and introducing them basic speeches (lauga), folafolaga o sua and sultoga.
In this Semester course, students will be able to learn about some of the historical events to Samoa. In developing their language, students will learn the topics such as Mau Movement, Mau a Samoa and Samoa's Independence. Assessments will also be based on students justifying and demonstrating ideas towards these topics.

The second semester of Sports Leadership offers students the chance to learn about leadership styles while applying these to a coaching context. Students will then get the opportunity to coach small groups at Papakura Intermediate school. The largely practical component of this course allows students the opportunity to reflect on their leadership learning within a real-world context. It offers an exciting insight and pathway into the sports and recreation industry.
The purpose of this course is to provide opportunities for students to participate in regular activities, encounter new experiences and develop leadership skills. The first semester of Sports Leadership will focus on Learning through Adventure and Outdoor Education, culminating in a camp at Hillary Outdoors Tongariro. The largely practical component of this course allows students the opportunity to reflect on their leadership learning within a real-world context and offers an exciting insight and pathway into the sports and recreation industry.
This course will challenge and extend the language skills of learners across the four modes of korero, whakarongo, panui and tuhituhi.
Ideally, this course will suit students who have progressed from Te Reo Māori Level 1 and 2 and who have a developing knowledge of Te Reo Maori. Course work will comprise of 3 internal Achievement Standards and 1 External Achievement Standard Exam. Final entry into this class will depend upon a screening assessment, results of assessment, subject teacher OTJ's in conjunction with the language abilities of individuals and the entire class.
This is a competency based course, therefore, the measures of success for learners in this class will be based on their ongoing competency in Te Reo Māori, not the stringently defined curriculum levels in the NZC.
This course will suit students who desire to further embed their knowledge of the Māori language, however, are unable to engage and operate independently at Curriculum Level 8 in Te Reo Māori. This course will also suit students wanting to develop their language skills without the pressures of attaining A.S credits, learners that previously studied Te Reo Māori at Year 9 and 10 or Te Ara Reo Māori Levels 1 and 2. It will also suit new or returning learners of Te Reo Māori.
Some experience with the language although not compulsory is desired, furthermore, a positive attitude and a good work ethic are required.

Trips have been to: the Bay of Islands/Cape Reinga, Wellington, Day trip to Rotorua (Year 13 only) and an Auckland City Amazing Race.

“The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don’t have any.” This course will use film to study power dynamics, where they come from, how they’re upheld, and how you fit into them. This project is for students interested in competing at a professional level, representing Papakura High School. Participants will learn hip hop routines to be performed at competitions across Auckland. The crew has two options for students. Competition Crew: Students who are successful in the audition will train and perform in competitions. Training Crew: Students who are not selected for the competition crew but still want to learn are welcome to stay and train with the group. They will learn the same choreography but will not compete.

Indian cooking is a diverse and flavoural culinary tradition of India. It is characterized by the use of different spices, herbs, vegetables and grains which results in dishes with lots of flavour and nutrition. Indian cuisine varies greatly depending on different states of India. By preparing a meal and clearing up afterwards, our students can gain valuable life skills that will help them become more confident and responsible. Learning to cook dishes from different parts of India (North, South, East, West, Northeast, Central) exposes students to different techniques, reflecting the local culture, geography, and history. Indian cooking is not just focused on cooking different Indian foods but also enhancing students learning about the medicinal properties of commonly used spices and herbs, and manintaining nutritional value when cooking. The elective would ideally consist of students from an Indian background who do not have enough exposure to their cultural and religious festivals due to relocation/migration to New Zealand. This course is for students who are leaning towards a career in the creative industries and would like more time developing skills in Photography. This course will be student-led with students able to choose from a variety of photographic processes and themes to develop artworks.
Students will have opportunities to research art making traditions and influences on recent Photography practice. Developing appropriate skills to generate, analyse and clarify students’ own ideas and gain an understanding of using mediums, processes and approaches relevant to Photography in order to create original art work.
You MUST of taken L2 Photography to take this course. We recommend taking this course for the whole year to gain maximum credits, as the 'extension' course offers the folio which is 14 credits.

There will also be a LEVEL 2/3 HISTORY CAMP this semester, but students MUST meet certain criteria to be eligible to go.

At Level 3, students are to produce and cater food and beverages within an authentic environment for a variety of customers and in a variety of situations. The focus of this course is to consistently produce high-quality barista beverages for customers. Students will also learn about the origins of the coffee bean to make informed decisions when selecting the beans they choose to use. Hospitality students have a well-equipped, purpose-built and fully functioning catering kitchen and barista machines for this purpose.
Students are required to be committed to practising the Food Safety Standards of New Zealand and produce quality and complex foods to a commercial standard at ALL times within this vocational environment. If not already achieved, students will have the opportunity to complete US 167 food safety.
To complement their barista work, students will also prepare, cook and serve foods also served within the cafe/ restaurant industry.
Student at Level 3 MUST produce food for service within an authentic environment for a variety of customers and in a variety of situations. Students will work in a well-equipped, purposely built and fully functioning catering kitchen for this purpose. Students are expected to prepare, cook and serve products at the entry level to tertiary.
Students, as well as the learning tutors, are required to be committed to practising the Food Safety Standards of New Zealand and produce quality and complex foods to a commercial standard at ALL times within this vocational environment. We support each other and work as a team to achieve successful outcomes.
Students must commit to achieving Unit Standard 167 Food Safety in a commercial environment , offered at levels 1 and 2, before they can gain credits at Level 3.
This course will require you to commit to performing in a group, which will not only further develop your musical skills but also enhance your confidence to be on stage and ability to work alongside others; this is designed to develop your skills within all aspects of music, as well as creative, personal and interpersonal communication skills. You will also be able to more deeply develop your use of Music Technology (such as Sibelius & Noteflight) for creation.
You can begin to focus more on your strengths of either composing or performance at this level, as well as choosing to do non-performance standards such as Research, and Harmonic Theory.

You will need a fitness goal, look at methods of training you can apply to meet the goal, apply principles of training and keep a weekly record of the implementation of the training. There will be the choice of participating in unit or achievement standards, which can be negotiated with the teacher.
This course will be very practical, and you will be assessed practically and through a written report.
It will focus on strategies used in various sports. The key skills will be decision-making, strategy, and critical thinking. You will also explore strategies for improving your self-efficacy and self-esteem, including aspects of mindfulness.

In this Semester, students will be learning about some of the significant culture or aganu'u in the Fa'a Samoa. Topics will include roles and responsibilities of taule'ale'a and tamaitai Samoa in a tautua setting and introducing them basic speeches (lauga), folafolaga o sua and sultoga.
In this Semester course, students will be able to learn about some of the historical events to Samoa. In developing their language, students will learn the topics such as Mau Movement, Mau a Samoa and Samoa's Independence. Assessments will also be based on students justifying and demonstrating ideas towards these topics.

Trips have been to: the Bay of Islands/Cape Reinga, Wellington, Day trip to Rotorua (Year 13 only) and an Auckland City Amazing Race.
This course is for students who are leaning towards a career in the creative industries and would like more time developing skills in Visual Arts. This course will be student-led with students able to choose from a variety of media and themes to develop a body of work and for the production of the folio board, in either Painting or Printmaking.

“The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don’t have any.” This course will use film to study power dynamics, where they come from, how they’re upheld, and how you fit into them. Your critical thinking skills will be used to identify power struggles present in your everyday life, and use visual text to express your opinions and thoughts on a specific power ideology.

You do not require any prior experience. You could bring some of your ideas.
