LatestTe Ara Huarau | School Profile Report
Background
This Profile Report was written within 33 months of the Education Review Office and Jean Batten School working in Te Ara Huarau, an improvement evaluation approach used in most English Medium State and State Integrated Schools. For more information about Te Ara Huarau see ERO’s website. www.ero.govt.nz
Context
Jean Batten School provides education for Years 1 to 6 ākonga/learners and is located in Mangere East, Auckland.
The current leadership team, consisting of the principal, deputy principal and two assistant principals, formed in 2020 after restructuring.
The school’s motto is ‘Faith in God, Confidence in Oneself’ and its goal is to develop students who are ‘High Fliers’, confident life-long learners navigating their path through a culturally rich world. The school’s values are manaakitanga, faka’apaapa, fa’aloalo, respect and kindness (sign language). These values are underpinned by ‘Te Whare Tapa Wha’ holistic framework and the whakatauki ‘Kia whakatōmuri te haere whakamua’, the past, present and future are intertwined.
Jean Batten School’s strategic priorities for improving outcomes for learners are to:
- develop assessment capabilities focused on equitable outcomes for all ākonga
- design a responsive localised curriculum that will improve student achievement, hauora and whānau connections
- grow effective teaching and leadership capability and capacity to raise student achievement
- continue to build ‘Te Whāre Tapa Whā’ framework.
You can find a copy of the school’s strategic and annual plan on the Jean Batten School website.
