Context 

Pukekawa School is located in rural northern Waikato. The school provides education for students in Years 1 to 6.

Pukekawa School’s strategic priorities for improving outcomes for learners are:

• quality teaching and learning within a localised curriculum        

• culturally responsive and inclusive practice.

ERO and the school are working together to evaluate how effectively learner outcomes are increased through high quality teaching practices. Strengthening teacher knowledge and capability in evaluation is a continued priority for the school.

The rationale for selecting this evaluation is:

• the priority to increase rates of progress for all learners in literacy and mathematics

• the commitment to increasing student engagement through the localised curriculum     

• the opportunity to strengthen consistency of teacher practice and build evaluation capability for shared understandings and continuous improvement.

The school expects to see improved rates of progress and equitable outcomes for learners in literacy and mathematics.

Where to next?

Moving forward, the school will prioritise:

• supporting teachers to embed consistency of school-wide teaching and assessment practices to improve equitable outcomes for all learners

• strengthening data literacy practices at all levels to inform school planning, teaching, and learning.

ERO’s role will be to support the school in its evaluation for improvement cycle to improve outcomes for all learners. ERO will support the school in reporting their progress to the community.
