LatestTe Ara Huarau | School Profile Report
Background
This Profile Report was written within 27 months of the Education Review Office and Rosehill Intermediate working in Te Ara Huarau, an improvement evaluation approach used in most English Medium State and State Integrated Schools. For more information about Te Ara Huarau see ERO’s website www.ero.govt.nz
Context
Rosehill Intermediate provides education for Year 7 and 8 students and is located in Papakura, South Auckland. Since the last ERO review in 2018, the senior leadership team has remained constant.
The school’s vision is to prepare students for a global future by ensuring they are confident, connected and lifelong learners. The school values are respect, integrity and self-management.
Rosehill Intermediate strategic priorities for improving outcomes for learners are focused on enhancing:
- teaching and learning
- student wellbeing
- community connections and inclusivity.
You can find a copy of the school’s strategic and annual plan on the Rosehill Intermediate website.
ERO and the school are working together to evaluate the effectiveness of teaching practice and its impact on learners’ achievement and progress.
The rationale for selecting this evaluation is to respond to student achievement data and whānau/parent aspirations. The focus also aligns with the school’s Kāhui Ako goal to promote teacher effectiveness.
The school expects to see teachers collectively building their capacity to enhance student achievement in reading, writing and mathematics.
Strengths
The school can draw from the following strengths to support improvement in effective teaching and learners’ achievement and progress:
- a positive, inclusive and supportive school culture
- culturally responsive practices that affirm and support students’ backgrounds
- established ‘character’ classes that support a range of students’ interests and skills
- the provision of strong leadership and coaching in mathematics within the staff
- teachers' commitment to professional learning to improve their practice.
Where to next?
Moving forward, the school will prioritise:
- embedding teachers’ use of effective strategies to improve student achievement in writing and mathematics
- developing effective assessment for learning practices to improve students’ ownership of and progress in learning.
ERO’s role will be to support the school in its evaluation for improvement cycle to improve outcomes for all learners. ERO will support the school in reporting their progress to the community. The next public report on ERO’s website will be a Te Ara Huarau | School Evaluation Report and is due within three years.
