Background
This Profile Report was written within 14 months of the Education Review Office and Wakaaranga School working in Te Ara Huarau, an improvement evaluation approach used in most English Medium State and State Integrated Schools. Context
Wakaaranga School in Farm Cove, Auckland caters for students in years 1 to 6. The school vision is ‘empowering learners to navigate tomorrow’ and the school values; Takohnga, Whāiwhakaaro, Manaakitanga, and Aumangea, guide the school.
Wakaaranga School’s strategic priorities for improving outcomes for learners are:
- Ako Angitū – learning and achievement: achieving great student outcomes through the provision of quality teaching and learning
- Whakawhanake – continuous growth, grow and consolidate our signature high standards
- Whanaungatanga Pāhekoheko – partnerships and engagement, create opportunities to partner with our community.

ERO and the school are working together to evaluate how well the school is strengthening assessment for learning practices and achieving equitable and excellent outcomes for all students.
The rationale for selecting this evaluation is to:
- provide equitable and excellent learning opportunities and outcomes for all students
- further strengthen responsive teacher practice across the school.

Where to next?
Moving forward, the school will prioritise:
- continue to build collective capability and practice of staff through relevant professional learning and development to ensure equitable and excellent outcomes for all students.
ERO’s role will be to support the school in its evaluation for improvement cycle to improve outcomes for all learners. ERO will support the school in reporting their progress to the community.
