Te Ara Huarau | School Profile Report

Background

This Profile Report was written within six months of the Education Review Office and Cambridge School working in Te Ara Huarau, an improvement evaluation approach used in most English Medium State and State Integrated Schools. For more information about Te Ara Huarau see ERO’s website. www.ero.govt.nz

Context

Cambridge School is located in the centre of the Waikato town of Cambridge. It provides education for students in Years 1 to 6. The school is proud of its history and traditions and has strong links to its local and wider communities.

Cambridge School’s strategic priorities for improving outcomes for learners are:

  • enhancing student learning and achievement
  • enriching a quality learning environment.

You can find a copy of the school’s strategic and annual plan on Cambridge School’s website.

ERO and the school are working together to evaluate how effectively the school’s curriculum is improving outcomes for all learners. Challenging students to excel and achieve excellence is an ongoing priority for the school.

The rationale for selecting this evaluation is:

  • to continue to respond effectively to trends and patterns in school achievement data
  • to maintain a strategic focus on equitable and excellent outcomes for all.

The school expects to see further actions implemented to enhance the effectiveness of the school’s curriculum for continuous improvement.

Strengths

The school can draw from the following strengths to support its goal of equitable and excellent outcomes for all students:

  • leadership of learning that strengthens collective capability, supports consistency of practices, and enables effective collaboration for continuous improvement
  • teaching and learning programmes that enable high levels of student engagement and achievement
  • extensive data analysis that informs decision making, strengthens targeted actions and contributes to effective evaluation of the school’s curriculum.

Where to next?

Moving forward, the school will prioritise:

  • continuing to strengthen strategies to support all learners, especially target learners and students with additional needs to have equitable opportunities to learn and succeed
  • continuing to provide rich, authentic, and challenging learning opportunities, that enable students to excel in their learning.

ERO’s role will be to support the school in its evaluation for improvement cycle to improve outcomes for all learners. ERO will support the school in reporting their progress to the community. The next public report on ERO’s website will be a Te Ara Huarau | School Evaluation Report and is due within three years.
