ERO and the school are working together to evaluate how well culturally responsive practice contributes to positive student outcomes in terms of excellence and equity in achievement and wellbeing.
The rationale for selecting this evaluation is to:
-
support the attendance and engagement of students who are at risk of not meeting their potential.
-
strengthen the consistency of culturally responsive practices to support the wellbeing of students.
The school expects to see improved outcomes of equity in student engagement, wellbeing and attendance.
Strengths
The school can draw from the following strengths to support its evaluation of how well culturally responsive practice contributes to positive student outcomes in terms of excellence and equity in achievement and wellbeing:
-
Teachers share high, clear and equitable expectations for student learning, achievement, progress and wellbeing.
-
Internal evaluation practices support the gathering, analysis and use of evidence of student learning and outcomes to improve individual and collective practice.
Where to next?
Moving forward, the school will prioritise:
-
progressing te ao Māori learning for all staff and all learners including tikanga Māori, te reo Māori and broader mātauranga Māori.
-
ensuring that te reo me ōna tikanga and te ao Māori are actively promoted and prioritised.
-
actively engaging with iwi, hāpori and whānau to develop the collective knowledge to positively transform Māori student outcomes.
ERO’s role will be to support the school in its evaluation for improvement cycle to improve outcomes for all learners. ERO will support the school in reporting their progress to the community. The next public report on ERO’s website will be a Te Ara Huarau | School Evaluation Report and is due within three years.
