The rationale behind this is that increasingly the two industries are becoming more integrated.   All standards are supported by field trips where applicable and the growing and maintenance of plants in the tunnel-house, vineyard and around the school.

The course covers:

·     Livestock physiology and management.

·    Plant physiology and management.

·    The impact of primary production on the NZ environment.

·    The management of pasture and crops in feeding livestock.

·    Plant propagation and maintenance.

·    Demonstrate practical skills used in agricultural or horticultural production.

Assessment:

This course offers a total of  twenty-six credits towards the National Certificate in Educational Achievement. Twelve of these credits are internally assessed and fourteen are externally assessed.

If any students wish to focus on Horticulture Achievement Standards  these can be catered for and in term three they will complete alternative Achievement Standards  to the boys studying Agriculture.  These students will also complete two external standards. A pre-requisite for Year 12 Horticulture will be students will have had to pass at least one of these external standards.

The alternative Horticulture Achievement Standards  offered will be:
