Background

Context
Lucknow School is situated in Maungawharau Havelock North, Te Matau a Māui Hawke’s Bay and sits in the rohe of Ngāti Kahungunu iwi. It is a partner within the Tukituki Kāhui Ako cluster and the school caters for learners in years 1 to 6. The school values of; Kind, Honest, and Active are embedded throughout the localised curriculum that provides opportunities for learners to reach the school’s vision.
The school’s whakatauki is Mā te huruhuru, kā rere te manu.
Lucknow School’s strategic priorities for improving outcomes for learners are:
- to provide a broad localised curriculum which meets the holistic needs of all ākonga
- to ensure ākonga are passionate about learning through a multitude of enriched experiences and opportunities
- to nurture and protect the schools inclusive and vibrant school culture.

ERO and the school are working together to evaluate how effectively the school’s local curriculum is promoting positive outcomes for all learners.
The rationale for selecting this evaluation is to ensure all learners experience a rich, broad, and deep localised curriculum that promotes engagement leading to equitable outcomes.
The school expects to see high quality curriculum and engagement leading to improved and equitable outcomes for all, particularly Māori and learners with diverse needs.
Strengths
The school can draw from the following strengths to support its goal to enact a localised curriculum that meets the needs of all ākonga:
- learners experience a school climate that is positive, inclusive and that seeks to promote their engagement
- leaders and teachers are actively engaged in knowledge building processes that promotes a culture of trust, collegiality, and openness to change
- the development of systems to track individual student progress and promote clear and meaningful learning goals and curriculum that support achievement.
Where to next?
Moving forward, the school will prioritise:
- the implementation and monitoring of its local curriculum to continually improve outcomes for learners
- continue to build teacher capacity for authentic learning experiences, in relation to te ao Māori and mātauranga Māori
- ensuring reciprocal and learning centred relationships with community, families and whānau supports the realisation of aspirations leading to improved achievement.
ERO’s role will be to support the school in its evaluation for improvement cycle to improve outcomes for all learners. ERO will support the school in reporting their progress to the community.
