LatestTe Ara Huarau | School Profile Report
Background
This Profile Report was written within 22 months of the Education Review Office and Glenview School (Porirua East) working in Te Ara Huarau, an improvement evaluation approach used in most English Medium State and State Integrated Schools. For more information about Te Ara Huarau see ERO’s website www.ero.govt.nz
Context
Glenview School, located in Porirua, provides education for learners from years 0 to 6.
Glenview School (Porirua East)’s strategic priorities for improving outcomes for learners are:
-
a Glenview Curriculum which promotes learning success and positive wellbeing
-
whānau and community engagement.
You can find a copy of the school’s strategic and annual plan on Glenview School (Porirua East)’s website.
ERO and the school are working together to evaluate how effectively systems, practices and whānau partnerships support the acceleration of all student learning for continuous improvement in writing.
The rationale for selecting this evaluation is:
-
leaders and teachers have identified the need to collectively review and strengthen schoolwide systems, current practices and whānau partnerships that support the improvement and acceleration of writing
-
achievement information highlights the need to improve learners’ success across the core curriculum, and in particular writing.
The school expects to see the writing achievement of all learners supported and accelerated through the alignment and cohesion of systems and processes, the development of consistent classroom practice and strengthened learning partnerships with whānau.
Strengths
The school can draw from the following strengths to support the school in its goal to evaluate how effective the systems, processes and practices are that support the acceleration of all student learning for continuous improvement in writing:
-
a well-researched, developed and embedded approach that holistically supports the positive engagement and wellbeing of all learners in writing
-
authentic reflection of all students’ cultures in the curriculum, environment and celebrations that is culturally responsive and promotes engagement in writing
-
a staff who are open to learning, collaborative and committed to building knowledge and strengthening practice to improve student outcomes in writing.
Where to next?
Moving forward, the school will prioritise:
-
shared knowledge building, leading to a clarity of purpose, consistent practices and expectations in writing across the school
-
further building of teacher capability with a clear focus on reflective inquiry and evaluation, resulting in improved outcomes for learners in writing.
ERO’s role will be to support the school in its evaluation for improvement cycle to improve outcomes for all learners. ERO will support the school in reporting their progress to the community. The next public report on ERO’s website will be a Te Ara Huarau | School Evaluation Report and is due within three years.
