World Scholar’s Cup

Do you enjoy team debating, creative writing, and trivia quizzes? Would you like to travel around the world to represent Macleans and compete in those events, and win medals and trophies?

The WSC Club is just the thing for you. As a newly-formed club that prepares and trains students for the World Scholar’s Cup, we would love for you to join us and cultivate your own interests, with opportunities such as practising debates, developing writing skills, and team quizzes.

The competition features four main events: Team debate, collaborative writing, Scholar’s Challenge (individual multi-choice quiz), and the Scholar’s Bowl (multimedia team quiz). In this competition, students work in groups of threes. Each year the curriculum explores a wide range of subjects, such as literature, science, history, art, music, social studies, and other themed subjects. If they qualify, students can progress through different stages of the competition, with opportunities to compete at international rounds alongside participants from around the world. Teams that do well can qualify for international rounds overseas, with the final round being held at the prestigious Ivy league University Yale. Please note that entries are not cheap—we will do as much fundraising as possible but some costs need to be covered individually.

Students interested in representing the school in the World Scholars Cup should look out for further information regarding trials in the daily notices.

A meeting will be held in M5 on Monday Week 10 after sit-down lunch for more information and Q&As. We recommend that all students who are interested should attend.
