ERO and the school are working together to evaluate how effectively the revised literacy programmes developed to accelerate student learning are improving equitable outcomes for all tamariki.
The rationale for selecting this evaluation is to:
- support teachers in developing and implementing effective literacy programmes
- to accelerate student engagement, progress, and achievement.
The school expects to see:
- teachers’ using effective literacy strategies in their learning programmes
- improved levels of confidence for learners in reading and writing
- equitable and improved achievement outcomes for all tamariki.
Strengths
The school can draw from the following strengths to support its goal to accelerate student literacy:
- the school’s values and Christian culture underpin all aspects of school life and help create close learning relationships between the school and the community
- committed teachers who regularly meet to discuss and monitor the achievement of specific students
- teachers who use moderation approaches to improve consistent delivery across the school.
Where to next?
Moving forward, the school will prioritise:
- use professional learning opportunities to help support the delivery of effective literacy programmes
- resourcing programme, monitoring student achievement and evaluating literacy initiatives
- further enhancing a learning culture which promotes success and equity for all students.
ERO’s role will be to support the school in its evaluation for improvement cycle to improve outcomes for all learners. ERO will support the school in reporting their progress to the community. The next public report on ERO’s website will be a Te Ara Huarau | School Evaluation Report and is due within three years.
