The second year of the Automotive Academy continues where Year 12 left off. Knowledge and skills for both engineering and automotive are further strengthened.
The main change for this year is that AUA13 now occupies 2 lines in the timetable, as there is now NO after school session. Students continue to attend Unitec for one day per week.
Building Academy - Level 2
Did you enjoy Woodtech? Do you like the idea of working in the construction industry? Perhaps becoming a Carpenter? Roofer? Or Builder? Then the Building Academy could be for you! This is a two year programme. It allows students to make a start on pre-trade training in building and construction at both Levels 2 and 3. Students go off site one day a week to Unitec to work in the building workshop on real life building projects.

Students engage in the study and practice of Toi Māori, developing knowledge, skills, and understanding across a range of traditional and contemporary Māori art forms. Learning includes Ta Moko, Māori Performing Arts, Whakairo, Kōrero, and Kōwhaiwhai. Students attend Te Whare Mahi-a-Toi and transition into Te Wananga one day per week for one semester, gaining authentic learning experiences and exposure to creative, cultural, and tertiary pathways.

Students engage in the study and practice of Toi Māori, developing knowledge, skills, and understanding across a range of traditional and contemporary Māori art forms. Learning includes Ta Moko, Māori Performing Arts, Whakairo, Kōrero, and Kōwhaiwhai. Students attend Te Whare Mahi-a-Toi and transition into Te Wananga one day per week for one semester, gaining authentic learning experiences and exposure to creative, cultural, and tertiary pathways.

Wood Technology - Level 2
If you enjoyed Level 1 Wood Technology, then this course could be your perfect choice for Year 12. The course follows on from Year 11 and further develops your wood working skills. Students will continue to develop practical solutions in our wood workshops by learning a range of skills that are transferable between furniture making and carpentry. Students will learn to use a range of tools and modern machinery, as well as traditional woodworking methods to create practical outcomes. Students will expand their skills and knowledge when working with different types of timber and will explore a variety of marking out, cutting and assembly skills.
Wood Technology - Level 3
New course for 2027!!
This course allows students to continue to develop their woodworking skills to a higher level. There is more of a focus on furniture production and using advanced woodworking skills and processes.

Business Enterprise - Level 1
In this course, students will be creating and operating a business and during this time gaining exposure to Accounting, Economics and Business Studies. This course is designed to give the students a better understanding of how the world of business and economics works and will enable them to make solid decisions on whether or not to proceed to in-depth studies in one of the commerce areas.

Year 11 Chinese introduces students to the skills and knowledge required for NCEA Level 1 Chinese. Through a range of engaging contexts, students will develop their ability to communicate in Mandarin through speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Students will also explore Chinese culture and gain an understanding of the connections between language and culture. This course provides a strong foundation for further study in Chinese.
This course is for students with a keen interested in Science, and want to be able to explore where Science can take them. Students will take two lines of Science to equip them with relevant skills and prepare them for Senior Sciences. Students will need to apply for entry into this course.
Year 11 Dance
Students will learn to communicate through movement and interpret meaning from movement. They will choreograph, perform and critically explore dance in its diverse cultural contexts; developing ways to express ideas, feelings, values, and beliefs, as well as how they understand those of others. This is a university entrance pathway.


Design & Visual Communication - Level 1
In Design and Visual Communication, students/ākonga will learn how to design and present spatial concepts for architecture, landscape, interior design and product design. This course involves a range of drawing techniques and CAD applications including Techsoft, Sketchup and Adobe Creative Suite.



Digital Art - Level 1
In Year 11, Digital Art students will work toward creating a portfolio based around prompting conservation efforts. Students will learn some fundamental photography skills and will experiment with photograms and cyanotypes. Students will spend a lot of time learning moderate to advanced Adobe Photoshop skills. Students will be able to put their skills to the test by creating a public-facing A3 infographic poster.

Digital Technology - Level 1
In this course, students will learn skills in various aspects of Digital Technologies. This includes programming as well as designing and developing digital outcomes such as websites and 3D models. They will demonstrate that they can design a digital solution for an issue to benefit specific end-user groups, incorporating kaitiakitanga or manaakitanga. Through their journey in this course, students will use Visual Studio code, HTML, CSS, Python, Figma and Blender.


Drama - Level 1
Drama is a performance based subject that focusses on acting skills, analysing texts and creative strategies to create original pieces of theatre.
Engineering Technology - Level 1
Come and learn how to build cool projects out of metal!
Year 11 Engineering is all about learning the basics of metal machining and fabrication. Students do this by building 2 different projects through the year. These projects involve learning about engineering processes and machines in the workshop. From MIG and gas welding, to using the Lathes, drill press and handheld power tools. The two projects are worth a combined 22 credits, students also learn about health and safety in a workshop which will give them an additional 2 credits.
This is an excellent pathway towards the school's Academy Programs in Year 12 and 13 (Automotive, Engineering, Building)

Financial Management - Level 1
Financial Management is about more than money. The purpose of this course is for students to become confident in making wise financial decisions and to learn how to manage their finances in a way that will not only benefit them now but also in the future. The aim is to successfully reach financial goals, be able to provide for a family and ultimately reach retirement in a good financial position.
Food & Nutrition Technology - Level 1
Food Technology is a design-based course. It involves researching, developing and testing a range of different food products to meet a specific need. For example, creating a high energy snack bar for an athlete. Students will use a combination of practical and theory components to complete their projects.


This course develops students' ability to communicate in everyday situations in French. The focus is on building communication skills. Topics include film, tourism, food and French culture. Students have the opportunity to participate in activities such as Pétanque and the NZ French Film Festival.
Geography Level 1
Geography is a study of how people interact with environments, natural and man-made. This year we will be looking at volcanism in the Pacific and river processes, both in Aotearoa, and around the world. Additionally, we will investigate how people with different perspectives respond to challenges in their environment. This course involves a day trip to Opanuku Stream. 
Health Studies is about engaging in three Key Areas of Learning Food and Nutrition, Mental Health and Relationships and Sexuality in relation to hauora and the health and wellbeing of individuals, whānau and communities. It is about the complex interconnections between the physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual dimensions of people's lives. In this course you will develop a further understanding of how various cultural activities impact on hauora, understanding decision making models, investigating influences on hauora and demonstrating an understanding of strategies to help improve wellbeing.
History - Level 1
History is the study of the past, where students will learn to think critically to work out truth from lies and bias while sharpening investigation skills. Students apply key concepts throughout the year, including primary source research on the decision to drop the atomic bomb and the history of the Rainbow Warrior and Nuclear Free New Zealand.
Hospitality - Level 1
Hospitality is a practical-based course. Students will learn a range of cooking techniques and use these to prepare and present a range of food products. For example, egg and cheese dishes, soup and sauces, baking cakes, sponges and scones. Students will also learn about food safety and hygiene in a commercial kitchen.
Mathematics Advanced - Level 1
This is an academic course containing Algebra, Geometry, Graphing, Measurement, and Statistics content. Students will need to possess reasonable algebraic and numeric skills for successful completion of the course. It is strongly advised that students purchase a scientific calculator.
This course is a prerequisite for Level 2 Mathematics (MAC 12 A and MAS 12 A).
An initiative funded by Te Whatu Ora to raise up Pacific representation in health professions. Students take two lines of science to equip them with relevant skills and prepare them for senior sciences. Students must be of Pacific descent.
Mixed Materials Technology - Level 1
This course utilizes the new Materials and Processing Technology standards. It follows the product design process by developing skills and an awareness in material properties, existing product research, sustainable design and a variety of processing technologies. Students / ākonga will then take these skills and respond to briefs that require them to produce an outcome in a range of materials, including: wood, plastic, fiber, composites and metals. Students will achieve these outcomes by applying practical workshop skills in the use of clean technologies such as the laser cutter.


Music - Level 1
Level 1 Music is a practical and creative course where students develop skills in performance, composition, music production, and music theory. Students will have opportunities to perform regularly, write and record original music, work with other musicians, and take part in competitions and events such as Rockquest, Stand Up Stand Out, Talent Quest, and school concerts.
This course focuses on developing students’ understanding of movement, teamwork, and the influences of physical activity in Aotearoa. Students will apply and reflect on movement strategies in practical and group settings, with a strong focus on communication, collaboration, and promoting kotahitanga. Students will also explore how social, cultural, and historical influences shape movement experiences and participation in physical activity within Aotearoa and the Pacific.
Practical Art - Level 1
In Year 11 Practical Art, students will use drawing and painting to explore concepts from Aotearoa New Zealand's Māori context, as well as their own cultural identity. They will generate an idea for their own artwork and spend time trying different art-making techniques such as sculpture, painting, and printmaking to work towards creating a finished artwork for an exhibition. This is a university entrance pathway subject.
In Science, you will make links between concepts and the world around you. Through investigations, observations, and communication, you will demonstrate your understanding of aspects of Biology, Chemistry and Physics. This is a foundational course for moving into specialized Science courses in Year 12.
Te Reo Māori - Level 1
This course builds students’ ability to communicate effectively in Te Reo Māori across speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Students will learn to express ideas about past, present, and future activities, while developing both practical language use and academic understanding. The programme supports confidence, accuracy, and culturally appropriate communication in a range of contexts.

Textiles Technology - Level 1
Textiles Technology explores the impact of material and processing practices through fit-for-purpose product design. Students / ākonga gain practical sewing and textile construction skills by investigating traditional and contemporary materials and techniques to solve authentic problems. Students learn about societal impact and the importance of selecting materials/processes for sustainability, aesthetics, and performance.
Wood Technology - Level 1
If you enjoyed working with wood in Year 9 and 10, come and learn even more wood working skills in Year 11!
Wood Technology will teach you the basic skills of how to work with wood. How to correctly measure and mark out. How to cut and prepare the wood to be fixed together to make cool projects, with great take home value! Learn how to use the machines, power tools as well as more traditional wood working hand tools.
There are two projects and a safety standard across the year. Standards are mostly all practical but written aspects are included to support evidence. They are worth a total of 24 credits.
This is a great choice if you are thinking about the Building Academy in Year 12!
Accounting - Level 2
At this level, Accounting builds on investigating systems and using the online software, Xero, to process data. It continues to focus more closely on analysing, interpreting and communicating financial information to a wide range of users. The course grows the students understanding of the accounting conceptual knowledge to enhance the understanding of practical knowledge learnt.
Art Design - Level 2
Art Design is a computer-based course where students learn the skill set needed to visually communicate ideas that inspire, inform or engage others. Based on real-world outcomes, students will be learning practical and digital skills while researching an individually chosen theme. Students will practice the elements of art design and illustration, as well as investigate the influence of contemporary artists, to generate a series of design works to create a portfolio as a final submission. For the year, students will have full access to an Adobe license, including Photoshop and Illustrator. This is a University entrance pathway.
Art Painting - Level 2
A practical course which builds on experiences from Level 1 Art and is essential for Level 2 Painting. Students must enjoy drawing and painting as a way of recording information. They will explore practical and theoretical aspects of painting with reference to contemporary artists. Each student will work with the selected subject matter in a variety of media to develop an individual thematic and stylistic approach to art-making. This is a university entrance pathway subject.


Art Photography - Level 2
Introduction to photographic art, digital and analog camera techniques, computer manipulation and printing processes. Students will develop skills in design, dynamic composition and aesthetics. Students will use photographic artists for inspiration to develop their own photographic work. Students will be introduced to Adobe Software for editing and manipulating their images. As with all visual art subjects, the course requires substantial commitment outside the classroom. This is a University Approved pathway subject.


Art Sculpture - Level 2
An in-depth practical course in sculpture. Each student's course is tailored to their individual interests and strengths. Contemporary artists are studied to complement and extend student performance. The focus is on research, development of ideas and producing an individual body of work. This is a university entrance approved subject pathway.

The Automotive Academy will not only continue to develop engineering skills, but also teach the basics of cars, motorbikes and engines.
The AUA course takes up 1 line in the timetable, but also every Tuesday evening after school. This extra time allows the students to design and build their own project vehicle (usually either a scooter or Go-kart)
The Year 12 Academy students also spend a day at Unitec, once per week, to further develop their skills.
This is a 2 year year course (AUA12 and AUA13).
Places are limited and it is usually a requirement that students have passed EGT11U but any student can apply.

Business Studies Level 2 is a unique challenge, where students need to be future focused entrepreneurs. They get their first look at the work involved in running a business, where the focus is on creating a product/service that is grounded in being ethically, culturally innovative and sustainable, to sell in Term 2 and 3. Students gain knowledge on market research to ensure their product will sell and creation of a business plan. This course gives students an insight into Human Resources, focusing on motivation in the workplace. The course runs alongside the Young Enterprise Scheme competing against other schools in numerous challenges including presenting their business plan to a panel of successful business people.

Designed to give a strong foundation for Level 3. Covers a wide range of internals with practical and theoretical understanding. Extension available by opting into an extra external.
Year 12 Chinese provides students with the opportunity to further develop their Mandarin language skills and deepen their understanding of Chinese culture. Through engaging and authentic contexts, students will build confidence in speaking, listening, reading, and writing Chinese while exploring both traditional and contemporary aspects of Chinese-speaking communities. Classics - Level 2
In Classical Studies 12A the learners will study the epic journey of Odysseus in 'The Odyssey' and compare the text with modern stories. In term 2 and 3 the focus will be the history of Ancient Rome from its founding to the reign of Augustus.
Design & Visual Communication - Level 2
Students build on their knowledge from Level 1 to create design solutions for architectural, spatial design and product design contexts. Students explore their own design style and develop their ability to accurately communicate their ideas visually through freehand sketching, instrumental drawing, including CAD and modelling.

This course builds on the skills and knowledge gained in Level 1. Students will further develop their performance skills and explore a wider range of dramatic styles. This course includes a live performance to an audience and a trip to see a professional play,
Engineering Academy is designed to be a two year programme. It allows students to make a start on pre-trade training in engineering. Over a two year period working with Competenz / Te Pūkenga, students can complete all the apprenticeship year one theory standards.
EGA12U takes up one line in the timetable, as well as Tuesday after school. Students go off site one day a week to UNITEC to work in the engineering workshop, completing a welding and fabrication course.
It is recommended that students have passed EGT11U, but all students can apply.
Engineering Technology - Level 2
Did you enjoy Engineering level 1? If you did, then this course is a great option for you. It is an advancement of skills from Level 1. Students will develop higher level practical solutions in the workshop by making a range of engineered projects. Similar to Level 1, there are two main projects. These advanced skills are developed using engineering processes with workshop tools and equipment. Assessments include finished engineered products with a written component evidencing knowledge gained.

The learning goals of this course are to teach students to think critically. We aim to analyse the texts and content we read, hear, and see in the world around us. Students will learn to find their voice - producing a range of crafted and controlled writing, and analysing and articulating connections between and across texts, both written, visual, and oral. Some standards may be offered to students on an individual education plan, if appropriate.

Year 12 Financial Management focuses on learning about financial products offered by various financial institutions and how students can use them to manage their personal incomes. They also gain more in-depth knowledge about sources of income, budgeting and setting financial goals. In addition they learn about the different ways to fund their tertiary studies and taxation. This course allows students to be well prepared for when they leave school to study further or gain employment.
In Year 12 Food Technology, students will build on the skills they learnt in Year 11. They will continue to use the design process to develop food products for a specific client. They will also learn about food sustainability and the impact of food production on the environment. Students will use a combination of practical and theory components to complete their projects.
This course builds on the skills and knowledge gained in Level 1 French. Students will further develop their ability to communicate in French in a range of situations. They will also deepen their understanding of French culture.
Gateway is a work-based programme that combines work experience and industry training. In class, students explore their personal attributes and interests, research potential careers and learn competencies that increase work readiness such as creating a CV and job search skills. All students complete a work experience placement.
Geography - Level 2
The study of environments and human interaction, including how activities affect natural environments and how diverse perspectives lead to issues. Topics: The Global Coffee Trade; where? why? and human impacts. Development Geography; why some countries are richer than others, and conducting research at Tongariro National Park.
This course explores three Key Areas of Learning: Mental Health, Sexuality and Relationships, and Food and Nutrition. Students will examine issues such as sexuality and gender identity, how to manage situations of major change, and power imbalances in relationships. They will also explore ways to promote the health and wellbeing of themselves, others and society.

In the Hospitality Academy, students learn practical cooking and food preparation skills through a mix of theory and hands-on kitchen experience. They will prepare a range of foods including baking, café-style meals, sandwiches, drinks, food presentation, and espresso coffee-making and barista training. Students also learn food safety, hygiene, teamwork, and customer service skills in a commercial kitchen environment. One day per week is spent training at NZMA.

Media Studies - Level 2
Media Studies provides students with the skills to create and critically examine media. It is a dynamic subject that contains a mixture of both creative practical work and film theory. Students have the opportunity to develop their filmmaking skills by planning, shooting, and editing a short documentary film. For the exam, students will write an essay about how and why the Slasher/Horror film genre has evolved over the decades.
Mixed Materials Technology - Level 2
This course continues to expand on the product design process by developing skills and awareness in existing product research, sustainable design, and a variety of processing technologies. Using these skills, students create a materials and processing technology outcome using a range of mixed materials, such as wood, plastic, and metal. Students will use a combination of practical workshop skills and computer aided design to complete their projects.
Music - Level 2
Level 2 Music is a flexible and creative course that allows students to shape their own learning programme. Building on the skills developed in Level 1, students choose from a range of achievement standards to create a personalised pathway focused on their interests and goals. Opportunities include performance, composition, music production, music theory, collaboration with other musicians, and participation in competitions and events such as Rockquest, Stand Up Stand Out, Talent Quest, and school concerts.
Students will learn how to apply biophysical principles to improve their own and others' performance in physical activity. They will also explore the sociological influences on physical activity and how these impact on the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities. This course involves both practical and theory components.



Includes one external assessment on electricity and magnetism. Internals cover atomic and nuclear physics, a practical investigation, and research into real-world applications. An Earth and Space Science standard is available.

In this course, students will continue developing their programming skills they started with in DGT11A using Python. This course offers the opportunity for students to design, develop and construct a textile product that addresses an issue. Students will gain practical sewing and textile construction skills by investigating traditional and contemporary materials and techniques to solve authentic problems sustainably.

If you enjoyed Level 1 Wood Technology, then this course could be your perfect choice for Year 12. The course follows on from Year 11 and further develops your wood working skills. Students will continue to develop practical solutions in our wood workshops by learning a range of skills that are transferable between furniture making and carpentry. Students will learn to use a range of tools and modern machinery, as well as traditional woodworking methods to create practical outcomes. Students will expand their skills and knowledge when working with different types of timber and will explore a variety of marking out, cutting and assembly skills.

The Requirements for University Entrance
To be awarded UE, a student must achieve all of the following:
Accounting - Level 3
Accounting, at Year 13, builds on the concepts of partnership financial records and subsidiary ledger reporting into company accounting. Students commence Company Accounting through analysing an Annual return and write a report on their findings. They learn about how the accounting concepts are developed and the process of these. Students will then build up to and compile a company's financial records and then communicate their findings. The course gives students a good understanding of Company Accounting and how to read it and is strongly recommended if students intend to pursue a commerce qualification at tertiary level.
Art Design - Level 3
Level 3 Art Design is a more independent digital-based course where students get to develop and explore their own proposed theme. A variety of art-making approaches and mediums are used to investigate creative ideas and establish resources. Students will be developing their practical knowledge and digital skills while using the influence of contemporary artists to generate a series of design works for a final three panels portfolio submission. For the year, students will have full access to an Adobe license (including Photoshop) the art rooms, computer lab and photography studio. This is a university entrance approved Subject.
Art Painting - Level 3
An in-depth practical course in painting and drawing. This course focuses on research, development of ideas and technical skills using wet media. Students must enjoy drawing and painting as a way of recording information. In this course, students will produce a body of work based on a theme that can be tailored to their individual interests. They will research a variety of contemporary artists and explore different media, conventions and techniques in order to produce a three-panel folio board. This is a university approved subject.
Art Photography - Level 3
Students are encouraged to develop their own personal style and approach to the art of photography. Students will increase their awareness of contemporary photographic practices, develop sensitivity towards subject matter and advance their technical and picture making skills. Cost $50 Camera Bond. This is a University entrance approved subject.


Art Sculpture - Level 3
An in-depth practical course in sculpture. Each student's course is tailored to their individual interests and strengths. Contemporary artists are studied to complement and extend student performance. The focus is research, development of ideas and producing an individual body of work. This is a university entrance approved subject.
The second year of the Automotive Academy continues where Year 12 left off. Knowledge and skills for both engineering and automotive are further strengthened.
The main change for this year is that AUA13 now occupies 2 lines in the timetable, as there is now NO after school session. Students continue to attend Unitec for one day per week.
For students needing a science for tertiary entry. Topics: human physiology, human evolution, practical investigation, and research. Requires all Achievement Standards to be passed for UE.
Follows Level 2 in more depth with high literacy demand. Topics: animal/plant responses to environment, socio-scientific issues (1080), human evolution, and homeostasis.
Building Academy - Level 3
This is the second year of the 2 year academy programme.
Year 13 takes up 2 lines in the timetable as there is no after school session. Students go off site one day a week to Unitec to work in the building workshop on real life building projects.

Business Studies - Level 3
Business Studies Level 3 challenges students to be future focused entrepreneurs. The focus is on creating a product/service that is grounded in being ethically, culturally innovative and sustainable, to sell in Term 2 and 3. The students adapt to obtaining consultation from external sources regarding their business activity to develop the idea throughout the year. Students will achieve UE in this subject in term three allowing time for other subject study or endorsement work. The course runs alongside the Young Enterprise Scheme competing against other schools in numerous challenges including presenting their business plan to a panel of successful business people.

Year 13 Chinese enables students to advance their Mandarin language skills and cultural understanding. This course prepares students for further study, travel, and global opportunities.
Design & Visual Communication - Level 3
This course establishes students as independent designers, developing their own individualised architectural or product design solution. Students will develop sophisticated visual communication techniques to present their ideas in both freehand drawing methods and utilising Computer Aided Designing tools such as Techsoft and Sketchup. In this course, students have the opportunity to submit work for a New Zealand Scholarship award.

Digital Creative Technology - Level 3
In this course, students will further develop skills in creative areas of Digital Technologies that require a good eye for design. This includes designing and developing digital outcomes such as websites and 3D models. They will demonstrate that they can design a digital solution for an issue to benefit specific end-user groups, chosen by the student. Through their journey in this course, students will use Visual Studio code, HTML, CSS, Figma and Blender.

Economics - Level 2
This specialised Level 2 Economics programme is designed for students interested in real-world economic issues and those considering future study in Commerce or Business. Students will analyse international trade, unemployment, government policies, and contemporary economic issues using economic concepts and models.
The course includes NCEA Achievement Standards combining both internal and external assessments. It provides a strong foundation for further study while developing students’ critical thinking, economic analysis, and understanding of how economic decisions impact society. The great thing about economics is that it teaches you how to understand real-world problems, analyse evidence, and make better decisions. It is not just about money — it is about people, choices, markets, and how society works.
Engineering Academy - Level 3
This is the second year of the 2 year academy programme.
EGA13U takes up two lines in the timetable, as there is NO after school Tuesday session. Students go off site one day a week to UNITEC to work in the engineering workshop completing a welding and fabrication course.

Did you pass and enjoy EGT12U? Then maybe EGT13U is your next step. This is a unit standard based course where assessment is both through the practical outcome and paperwork that shows evidence of accuracy, precision, engineering knowledge and understanding.
English - Level 3
This course focuses on developing critical thinking in response to texts that are read, viewed, or heard. It includes producing a range of written work and delivering a fluent, coherent speech. Ideal for students considering further study in English or Humanities at university.
English Communications - Level 3
The learning goals of this course are to (a) improve communication and literacy skills and (b) build upon the literacy skills gained from the English Communications Level 2 course. This course assesses skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening. Students will be on an individual education plan (IEP).
This course is for Year 13 English language learners who have advanced English language skills. The course aims to increase academic vocabulary, improve critical reading skills, develop writing skills across a number of different text types, improve listening skills and give practice in communicating ideas in appropriate ways.
Financial Management - Level 3
The Level 3 Financial Management course helps create a deeper understanding of money. The focus is to help students feel confident to make wise judgments about how they use and manage their money in ways that will benefit them now and in the future, to reach their long term financial goals, provide for themselves and reach retirement in good financial shape.

Food Technology - Level 3
This Year 13 course continues to expand on the design process by researching into existing products and developing innovative solutions for the real world. To create a technological outcome, various skills such as testing, trialing and sensory evaluation are used. Students will use a combination of practical and theory components to complete their project.



Gateway is a work-based programme that combines work experience and industry training. In class, students explore their personal attributes and interests, research potential careers and complete a community project. They will also learn competencies that increase work readiness, such as creating a CV and job search skills. All students complete a work experience placement.

This course focuses on critical thinking and analysis of health issues in Aotearoa and globally. Students will examine issues such as health inequities, ethical dilemmas and analyse a NZ health issue that impacts on 15-24 year olds. They will also be required to research a health condition and ways it can be managed and/or treated.
This is a 32-week programme for Year 12/13 students that combines a school-based Health class with weekly tertiary learning. This hands-on programme introduces students to the foundations of healthcare, including patient care, health conditions, and support services. It is designed to build skills and knowledge for pathways into nursing and other health care and health related careers.
History - Level 3
In History 13A the students will complete a research project based on Te Tiriti o Waitangi, including a trip to Waitangi to find sources. The second topic is the Cambodian Genocide from 1975 to 1979, discussing different perspectives and analysing the significance of the event to New Zealand.

They will prepare a range of foods including baking, café-style meals, sandwiches, drinks, food presentation, and espresso coffee-making and barista training. Students also learn food safety, hygiene, teamwork, and customer service skills in a commercial kitchen environment. One day per week is spent training at NZMA.

This is the second year of the Mahi-a-Toi programme for Year 13s. Students engage in the study and practice of Toi Māori, developing knowledge, skills, and understanding across a range of traditional and contemporary Māori art forms. Learning includes Ta Moko, Māori Performing Arts, Whakairo, Kōrero, and Kōwhaiwhai. Students attend Te Whare Mahi-a-Toi and transition into Te Wananga one day per week for one semester, gaining authentic learning experiences and exposure to creative, cultural, and tertiary pathways.
Mathematics with Statistics - Level 3
A highly academic course containing statistics and probability standards. Students will be expected to be aiming for achievement at Merit and Excellence level. Students will need to possess strong statistical insight for successful completion of the course. It is strongly advised that students purchase a graphics calculator for this course.

Media Studies - Level 3
Media Studies helps students engage critically with the media-saturated world we live in. It is a dynamic subject that contains a mixture of creative practical work and film theory. At Level 3, students have the opportunity to refine their filmmaking skills by planning, filming, and editing a short film. For the exam, students will write an essay about the dystopian film genre and its relationship with society. This includes making connections to contemporary social issues such as inequality, resource scarcity, and the climate crisis.
Mixed Materials Technology - Level 3
This course follows the product design process. Students will be focusing on the key skills of this process including: awareness in existing product research, sustainable design, and a variety of processing technologies. Using these skills students create a materials and processing technology outcome using a range of mixed materials, such as wood, plastic, and metal. Students will use a combination of practical workshop skills and computer aided design to complete their projects. In this course, students have the opportunity to submit work for a New Zealand Scholarship award.

Music - Level 3
Level 3 Music is a flexible and creative course that allows students to specialise in areas of music that match their interests and aspirations. Students co-construct their learning programme by selecting achievement standards that support their individual goals. Opportunities include advanced performance, composition, music production, music theory, collaboration with other musicians, and participation in competitions and events such as Rockquest, Stand Up Stand Out, Talent Quest, and school concerts. This course provides a foundation for tertiary music study, creative industries, and lifelong engagement with music.
This course focuses on the critical analysis of physical activity and its impact on the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities. Students will explore issues such as the commercialisation of sport, the role of physical activity in promoting social justice and the impact of technology on physical activity. This course involves both practical and theory components.
