Our Junior Te Reo Māori programme uses a differentiated learning approach to ensure every ākonga is supported at their own level and can progress confidently. When students continue through to Year 10, they complete a diagnostic assessment that identifies their current language ability. This data is used to place them into classes that best match their needs, ensuring targeted learning and strong progression.
At the conclusion of every term, we endeavour to run the diagnostic in every class to ensure students are continuously placed in the right ability group. This process also helps us identify and celebrate those ākonga who are making clear progress throughout the year.
We have four classes facilitated by four dedicated kaiako:
Through this structured pathway, our ākonga are nurtured from seed (kākano) to growth (pihinga), maturity (māhuri), and readiness to flourish (pito mata), building both skill and pride in te reo Māori.
