Mt Hutt Ski/Snowboard Trip
16 Jun 2026 – 23 Jun 2026VENUE: Mount Hutt
DATE: Monday 10 September
DEPART: 6.50am from KHS (Return circa. 5pm)
We have approximately 10 spaces available for senior students who would like to join the OdEd student for a lesson and gear hire. Students are able to use personal ski or snowboard equipment for this lesson package. Unfortunately there is no discount available. The cost of the trip is $130.
Please see Mr. Thomas at tutor time in K9 or the HaPE office at Interval to be emailed a link and express your interest.
PLEASE NOTE: Mount Hutt charge a $20 admin fee to cover any changes made to student passes. Should a student pull out of the trip with less than 2 weeks notice, KHS will not be able to refund the full amount paid. KHS will endeavour to fill the space if given reasonable notice that a student will not be attending.
Kapa Haka and Poly Group Practices
20 Jul 2026 – 21 Aug 2026Both Kapa Haka and Poly Groups will be performing at the Tuahiwi Kā Matakura o Ruataniwha 2026.
Our Poly group will be performing first, then the Kapa Haka rōpū.
Practices are;
Tuesday 3:15 pm - 5:00 pm - Kapa Haka
Thursday 3:15 pm - 5:00 pm - Poly Group
All welcomed to participate in this event.

Cost: Free (including morning tea and lunch, activities and mentoring)
What is a Social Impact Hackathon?
This isn't a coding event. A social impact hackathon brings together young people from across Canterbury to:
Explore issues they care about.
Learn from inspiring guest speakers and mentors.
Work collaboratively with other students.
Develop creative solutions to real community challenges.
Pitch their ideas in a supportive, encouraging environment.
We're looking for young people who:
Care about making a positive difference.
May already be involved or show interest in community service or volunteering spaces.
Have ideas, curiosity, or a willingness to learn.
Would benefit from developing confidence, leadership and teamwork skills.
May not usually put themselves forward for traditional leadership opportunities.
While student leaders are absolutely welcome, we particularly encourage schools to consider students whose potential may not always be recognised through formal leadership roles.
What students will gain
Participants will leave with:
Practical project planning and leadership skills.
Increased confidence in communication and collaboration.
Experience working alongside students from across Canterbury.
Inspiration from community leaders and mentors.
New friendships and connections.
The confidence and tools to take positive action in their own communities.

At Te Ara Tīrama, we believe leadership isn't defined by a title, it's about recognising opportunities, taking initiative, and creating meaningful change.
This event is designed to help rangatahi discover their own potential while building a diverse network of young changemakers from across Canterbury.
Kiwihacks Nova Hackathon
10 Aug 2026 – 25 Sep 2026Interested in technology, coding, game development or design?
KiwiHacks Nova is a space-themed hackathon for high school students aged 13 to 18, where participants collaborate in teams for 24 hours to build creative software and hardware projects. Students of all skill levels are welcome, including absolute beginners!
