About TKKM o Te Rito
Nestled in the heart of Otaki, TKKM o Te Rito stands proudly on Te Rauparaha Street within Wellington’s vibrant region. As a composite state school that embraces both boys and girls alike, it fosters an inclusive environment where 97 students come together to learn under the guidance of Principal Ariana Reweti.
With deep roots in Māori culture evident through its student community make-up—where a significant majority (over 70%) are identifying as Māori—TKKM o Te Rito is more than just an educational institution. It's a place where cultural heritage and contemporary learning coalesce, reflecting the rich history of New Zealand within its walls.
The school’s approach to education extends beyond academic pursuits; it actively promotes values that resonate with Māori traditions such as respect for self and others, empathy, teamwork, honesty, courage, integrity, perseverance, leadership, responsibility, service mindedness, humility, gratitude, kindness, compassion, whanaungatanga (kinship), manaakitanga (respect) and kaitiakitanga (guardianship).
