About Van Asch Deaf Education Centre
Welcome to the Van Asch Deaf Education Centre, a specialized educational institution nestled in Sumner within Christchurch'th region of New Zealand. With an approximate roll size of just over thirty students, our community is small enough to offer personalised attention and support tailored specifically for hearing-impaired learners.
Under the leadership of Principal Sarah de Heer, we strive not only towards academic excellence but also in nurturing a sense of belonging among all students. Our centre is proudly coeducational, providing an inclusive environment where every student's unique needs are met with understanding and respect.
Located on Truro Street Sumner, the Van Asch Deaf Education Centre stands as a beacon for deaf education in Canterbury. We believe that our students should have access to quality learning experiences right here at home or even closer if possible through partnerships with local schools.
Our core values are deeply rooted in the principles of communication, equality and inclusion; ensuring each student receives equal opportunities for growth both within school life as well outside it. We foster a culture where every voice is heard - whether spoken or signed – creating an atmosphere conducive to learning through all senses.
