New Plymouth Girls' High School Outdoor Education - Year 10.

We are excited to once again offer a range of outdoor adventures to finish the 2026 school year (7th-9th December). These activities provide students with opportunities to have fun, challenge themselves, build teamwork, confidence and resilience, and strengthen their connection with the outdoors.

We understand that whānau and families will need time to consider the different options, including costs, student interests and any support that may be required. Please note that there is also a fully funded local option available for students, ensuring every student can take part in the 3-day programme.

This information is being shared now so families can begin discussing options and planning ahead.
Full details, including final costs, payment information, gear lists, itineraries and the online selection form, will be released later in Term 3.

1. Raglan Rocks (3 Day Trip)
Activities: Surfing, paddle boarding, kayaking and exploring Raglan.
Estimated Cost: $450 TBC

Get ready for water-based adventures in the beautiful Raglan! This trip offers a mix of exciting activities and relaxation while staying at the holiday park. Meals are included, making it a fantastic option for students of all ability levels.

2. Holly Hut Tramp (3 Days, 1 Overnight)
Activities: Part of the Pouākai Circuit, Holly Hut, Bells Falls and YMCA Climbing.
Estimated Cost: $115 TBC
Places: 12

Experience the beauty of Taranaki on this overnight hiking adventure. Students will prepare with a climbing session before tramping to Holly Hut and visiting the spectacular Bells Falls. A moderate level of fitness is recommended.

3. Mountain Biking Rotorua (3 Day Trip)
Activities: Whakarewarewa Forest, Skyline Gondola & Luge, Hot Pools.
Estimated Cost: $500 TBC
Places: 10

Ride the famous Rotorua mountain bike trails before relaxing in the hot pools. Participants must supply their own mountain bike and confidently ride Grade 3 trails.

4. Tongariro Crossing (3 Day Trip)
Activities: Tongariro Alpine Crossing, hot pools, light walks and group activities.
Estimated Cost: $450 TBC
Places: 20

Take on one of New Zealand's most iconic hikes through volcanic landscapes, emerald lakes and spectacular alpine scenery. Students require a good level of fitness and appropriate warm clothing.

5. Rotorua Adventure Plus (3 Day Trip)
Activities: Kaituna River Rafting, Gondola, Luge, Redwoods Treewalk and Hot Pools.
Estimated Cost: $475 TBC
Places: 50

An action-packed three days including white-water rafting, Skyline Rotorua, the Redwoods Treewalk and plenty of adventure. No previous experience is required.

6. Horse Riding (3 Days – No Overnight)
Activities: Horse handling, riding skills and confidence building.
Estimated Cost: $365 TBC
Places: 12

Designed specifically for beginners, students will develop riding skills while building confidence through a range of fun activities and games.

7. Rotokare (3 Days, 1 Overnight)
Activities: Camping, conservation, bird monitoring and outdoor cooking.
Estimated Cost: $100 TBC
Places: 10

Perfect for students who enjoy nature and conservation. Camp beside the lake, learn about predator control, assist volunteers and experience the unique wildlife sanctuary.

 

8. Oceans Alive Scuba Camp.

Max of 5 students - Activities for all three days

Estimated Cost: $700 pp

No food, accommodation or travel included.  

They will come away with a SCUBA open water certification at the end.

They will need to organise some further time for open water dives during the school holidays to complete the certificate, this is included in the cost.

9. Local Combos (3 Days – No Overnight)
Activities: Orienteering, climbing, stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, beach games, waka ama and adventure-based learning.
Estimated Cost: FREE
Places: 90+

Students will rotate through a range of exciting local outdoor activities around New Plymouth. This option is free and provides an excellent opportunity to experience a variety of outdoor pursuits.

These trips provide an excellent opportunity to challenge yourself, make new friends, build confidence and create lasting memories. More detailed information, including registration, gear lists, itineraries and payment schedules, will be released later in the year.

It's a great way to learn about tennis and sign up for the season.  All ages welcome. Games, sausage sizzle and refreshments.

You are all invited to the Opening of the NPGHS Student Exhibition at the Gover Street Gallery - 19 Gover Street, New Plymouth on Wednesday 2nd September 4.30pm - 6pm

Bring your friends and family. Support your fellow NPGHS students and maybe buy an artwork.

The exhibition runs from the 1st September until the 20th September. Gallery is open 10am - 4pm Mon - Sat

Wizard of Oz NPGHS Show 2027

Auditions for lead roles in next year's show will be held on Sunday October 18. To find out more and sign up, collect an audition pack from Student Services. Intention to Audition forms are due by the end of term 3.

Lead roles include solo-singing roles and non-singing roles.

Dancers, ensemble and show choir will be auditioned in February next year.

Otago University will be based in the Library for degree planning sessions on Friday 11th of September at 12.10pm to 1.30pm. If you interested please be there by 12.15pm at the latest. First year health science will be based in Room B 6 at 1.30pm - 2pm on Friday 11th of September.
