Imagine an English project where you get to pick the books and texts, set your own reading pace, and chat about it with friends – that’s what this is all about!
You’ll choose books you’re genuinely interested in – it could be a novel, biography, short story collection, or something else your teacher approves. “What do you call a smart blonde? A Golden Retriever!”
At first, this sounds like just a funny joke. But when you think about it, it's not really harmless. Stereotypes like this do more than make people laugh - they also shape the way groups are seen, and sometimes those ideas can stick in damaging ways. So where do these stereotypes even come from? Why do they keep showing up in films, music videos, ads, or even social media? And how do they affect the way audiences think about people in the real world?
In this project, you'll be looking closely at representation in media and how it connects to audience responses. You will be investigating how streotypes and representations are created in texts, and then explore how audiences might react to them.
By the end, you'll not only sharpen your analysis skills but also see just how powerful media can be in shaping the way we see the world.
