About Herekino School
Welcome to Herekino School, nestled in the heart of Northland on Kaitaia-Awaroa Road within our vibrant suburb also named Herekino.
Herekino is a full primary state school that embraces diversity and inclusivity as core values. As one of New Zealand's coeducational institutions, it proudly serves students from grades 1 to 8 with an approximate roll size of just over two dozen young learners.
The student community at Herekino is rich in cultural heritage, representing a significant Māori majority that makes up around 82% of the school's enrolment. This reflective essence adds to our unique character and underscores our commitment as an educational environment deeply rooted in New Zealand’s indigenous culture.
Our principal, Maara Peters, is at the forefront of fostering a nurturing academic atmosphere that celebrates every student's individuality while emphasizing shared values such as respect, responsibility, and resilience. Herekino School stands out in Northland not only for its educational approach but also for being an exemplar institution where Māori culture thrives.
