About Patutahi School
Welcome to Patutahi School, nestled in the heart of Gisborne on Atkins Street within our close-knit suburb also named Patutahi.
Patutahi stands as a beacon for education where Māori culture and values are deeply interwoven into every aspect of school life. As one of the few co-educational State schools in Gisborne, we pride ourselves on providing an inclusive environment that respects our rich heritage while preparing students to thrive academically.
With a roll size close to 70 young minds eagerly learning and growing every day, Patutahi School is committed to nurturing each student'senvelopment. Our community boasts an impressive majority of Māori heritage—93% of our students identify as such — reflecting the strong connection between education here at Patutahi and its cultural roots.
Our principal, Sarah Coombes, serves with dedication to ensure that every child receives a well-rounded educational experience. Under her leadership, we aim not only for academic excellence but also personal growth in harmony with our Māori values of manaakitanga (kindness), whanaungatanga (family connection) and kaitiakitanga (guardianship).
